German-French Jazz at Gretchen
The Jazzdor festival was founded in Strasbourg in 1986 and has long been one of France's most important jazz festivals. Jazzdor Berlin is its Berlin offshoot, founded in 2007, which brings together Berlin and French jazz at a permanent venue in the capital: the Gretchen Club on Obentrautstraße in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district.
A Platform for the Franco-German Scene
The focus is on the German-French jazz scene. French musicians meet Berlin players, supplemented by solo artists from Belgium, Switzerland, and Italy. The festival explicitly sees itself as «seul événement franco-allemand en Allemagne» – Germany's only purely German-French jazz format. Between 2022 and 2024, a Dresden edition was added.
Four Evenings, Four Programmes
Across four evenings, there are around eight programme items – two per evening, a main concert and a double bill. The artists alternate between classic jazz line-ups (quartet, trio), solo performances, and larger ensembles (quintet, sextet). The 2026 programme includes Wakan, the Amaury Faye Nola Quartet with Herlin Riley, Polybahn, Synestet, Trouble, Photons, Garden Of Silences, and Mosaïc, among others.
Gretchen Club as the Main Stage
The Gretchen Club on Obentrautstraße 19-21 has been one of Berlin's most important jazz and club venues for years. With its brick-loft-style hall, it offers the acoustic warmth that jazz concerts demand. Tickets are usually around €24.20 per evening, with festival passes for multiple evenings available.
