Two Evenings on a Regnitz Island
Jazz & Klassik am Fluss is the musical summer highlight of the Central Franconian university city of Erlangen. On the Kulturinsel Wöhrmühle – a small, tree-lined island in the middle of the Regnitz river – two worlds meet in July: the internationally renowned jazz genre and classical music with world-class soloists and chamber orchestras. The organizer is the Gemeinnütziger Theater- und Konzertverein Erlangen e.V. (gVe), one of Erlangen's oldest cultural institutions.
150 Years of gVe – the Anniversary Year 2026
The 2026 edition is of special significance: it opens the 150th anniversary of the gVe. The association, founded in 1876, operates, among other things, the Theater Erlangen and has been organizing concerts and summer programs for decades. "Jazz & Klassik am Fluss" is its flagship in the open-air sector.
Monday, July 13th – Classical Music with Martynas Levickis
The first evening (Klassik am Fluss) is dedicated to the accordion: Lithuanian accordion virtuoso Martynas Levickis, celebrated by Le Monde and The New York Times, will perform with the Munich Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Enrico Onofri. The program includes a mix of Bach, Vivaldi, new music, and accordion arrangements of classical pieces. Starts at 7:30 PM.
Tuesday, July 14th – Jazz with Candy Dulfer and Biréli Lagrène
The second evening belongs to jazz – and a top-class international lineup:
- Candy Dulfer (Netherlands) – Grammy-nominated saxophonist, over 2.5 million albums sold, collaborations with Prince, Van Morrison, Maceo Parker, Aretha Franklin, and Pink Floyd
- Biréli Lagrène (France) – one of the greatest gypsy jazz guitarists of our time, Sinti tradition in the lineage of Django Reinhardt
- Torsten Goods & Band – German jazz guitarist and singer, student of Les Paul, multiple award winner
- Tony Lakatos (Hungary) – Hungarian saxophonist, son of the Lakatos dynasty, regularly a guest in top jazz scene bands
Starts at 7:30 PM.
The Kulturinsel as an Open-Air Stage
The Kulturinsel Wöhrmühle is located on the southern edge of Erlangen, in close proximity to the former Wöhrmühle brewery. The stage is set by the water, with the audience seated under the open sky or on picnic blankets. A Mönchshof beer garden and food trucks on site provide culinary catering. The atmosphere combines urban high culture with the natural feel of the river island – a format that is unparalleled in Central Franconia.
Erlangen – University City at the Gateway to Franconian Switzerland
With around 115,000 inhabitants, Erlangen is the youngest of the three university cities in Central Franconia (alongside Nuremberg and Fürth). The city is known for the Friedrich Alexander University, Siemens Healthineers, the Bergkirchweih (Bavaria's second-largest beer festival), and its location at the gateway to the Fränkische Schweiz (Franconian Switzerland). Jazz & Klassik am Fluss brings international top acts to this vibrant cultural city, connecting them with the river landscape experience of the Regnitz.
