The Italy Short Film Days Berlin will launch in 2026 as its premiere edition. Before 2026, there was no comparable festival format in Berlin. The festival organizer, Taxi Drivers, celebrates its own 20th anniversary (2006–2026) with this premiere and uses it to establish its own showcase for Italian short filmmaking in Berlin.

The Italy Short Film Days Berlin is a new festival, taking place for the first time in 2026. Before 2026, there was no comparable festival in Berlin dedicated exclusively to Italian short films. The gap was evident: while the Berlinale selectively shows Italian cinema and French, Polish, or Turkish film series have been established for years, a dedicated festival for Italian short films was missing.

The organizer is the Italian cinema magazine Taxi Drivers, founded in 2006, which will celebrate its 20th birthday with the 2026 premiere. The establishment of the festival also reflects the growth of the Italian community in Berlin in the 2010s and 2020s — and establishes a recurring format with annual aspirations.
