Overview

The 60th edition of the Markneukirchen Instrumental Competition in 2024 was an anniversary edition in categories for other instruments. The biennial rhythm of the competition alternates the competition disciplines annually — piano, strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion — thus continuing a generational repertoire of classical solo instrumental music.

International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen — The Tradition

Since 1957, Markneukirchen has organized its International Instrumental Competition. Each edition focuses on a different instrument — piano, string instruments, woodwinds, brass, percussion — thereby covering a broad spectrum of classical solo instrumental repertoire over the years. The WFIMC recognition makes the competition one of the most important platforms for young musicians transitioning to a professional career.

For 2026, the Horn and Tuba categories will be the focus — with a record number of participants.
