Overview

In 2025, instead of a full festival edition, a special screening was held in October dedicated to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan – one of the most neglected crises of our time. In parallel, HRFFB organized over 100 school screenings, bringing human rights topics into Berlin classrooms. This transitional solution served the structural realignment of the festival towards an April rhythm.

2025 was a transitional year for the Human Rights Film Festival Berlin: Instead of a full festival edition, the team organized a special screening in October dedicated entirely to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan – a conflict that receives little attention from the international public, despite affecting millions of people.

In parallel, a school program ran: over 100 school screenings brought human rights films and discussions into Berlin classrooms. This structural decision served the content-related and organizational realignment of the festival: From 2026 onwards, HRFFB will permanently shift its main cycle to April. Co-director Jan Sebastian Friedrich-Rust justified the move by the necessary planning security and the need for space for content development.
