Swedish Procession 2025 in Überlingen

In 2025, the people of Überlingen once again processed through the historic Oberstadt in colorful silk costumes to commemorate the Swedish siege of 1634 and fulfill the vow made by the city council in 1635. Sunday morning began with the solemn Pontifical High Mass in the late Gothic Minster of St. Nicholas, followed by the procession and the traditional sword dance in the central old town square.

Thousands of onlookers from across the Lake Constance region watched the traditional event, which has been maintained without interruption for almost 400 years — even through World Wars. The Swedish Procession once again confirmed its reputation as one of the most valuable living traditional festivals in Southern Germany.
