Overview

The 2025 Hiking Days at Wildflecken Training Area took place as traditionally held on a July weekend. Three marked routes of 11/15/19 km, start at Motten sports field from 6 AM–12 PM, security and information contribution €2.50 (€4 with pin). Hikers from the Rhön region, Bavaria, Hesse, and Thuringia explored the militarily unused terrain.

Hiking Days 2025

The 2025 edition continued the established format: two days of hiking through the otherwise restricted military area in the Hochrhön. The strict safety rules (only marked paths, do not touch ammunition, dogs on leash) were followed as always – the Bundeswehr and the market town of Wildflecken jointly organized the event.

Hochrhön Nature Experience

With the distinctive heights of Dammersfeldkuppe (928 m), Dreifelskuppe, and Dalherdakuppe, as well as the Ottersteine rock formation, the hiking area offers a rare glimpse into a landscape shaped by military use but valuable for nature conservation.
