Overview
In 2025, the Hiddensee Herring Festival once again celebrated the "silver of the Baltic Sea" at Vitte harbour. Freshly caught herring, maritime traditions, and a family programme made the festival a popular season opener on Hiddensee Island.
The Hiddensee Herring Festival 2025 once again brought maritime festival activities to Vitte harbour. Local fishermen prepared freshly caught herring in many variations and offered insights into the tradition of coastal fishing.
As usual, encounters with sea rescuers, a knot-tying school for children, as well as barbecue stands and a bouncy castle rounded off the festival. As part of the Rügen Herring Weeks, the festival marked the start of the season on the car-free island of Hiddensee.
