Overview

The last edition of the Heimattage Mengen before the 2026 anniversary edition took place in July 2022. Back then, the Heimattage also followed the classic four-day schedule: opening with a parade and barrel tapping on Friday, a craft market and parade maneuvers on Saturday, a grand historical parade on Sunday, and a children's festival on Monday. Thousands of visitors from Upper Swabia came to experience the quadrennial city celebration.

2022 — Preparing for the Anniversary

The 2022 Heimattage were already part of the preparations for the grand 2026 anniversary edition. The city of Mengen and the Bürgergarde used the event to test concepts, engage the public, and refine organizational routines for the four-day marathon.

The historical parade in 2022 once again attracted over 50 themed groups from across the Upper Swabia region. The parade maneuvers of the Mengen Bürgergarde — a spectacular display discipline of marksmen's culture — are among the defining images of the city's identity. Even then, it was clear that the next edition in 2026 would incorporate the 750th city anniversary — an prospect that has shaped expectations in Mengen for years.
