Walpurgis folk custom under the title Harzer Hexenzauber on Bad Grund's Market Square
The Harzer Hexenzauber on Bad Grund's Market Square is the centrally located complement to the spectacular Walpurgis Night at the Hübichenstein. While the main programme with open-air theatre, live concert and disco takes place at the rock stage at the Hübichenstein, Bad Grund's market square offers a second, community-driven Walpurgis celebration in the heart of the village.
Local clubs set up their food and drink stands on the market square: lard bread, witch soup, grilled sausages, mulled wine, and draft beer. The catering benefits the clubs' finances and makes the market square a cosy and convivial Walpurgis meeting point.
A compact stage on the market square provides space for regional music performances: acoustic guitarists, small bands, brass groups from the Harzklub, or local singer-songwriters shape the programme. The stage format is deliberately low-threshold and tailored to the character of a village Walpurgis.
Both Walpurgis locations – Hübichenstein and Market Square – complement each other. Visitors can walk between the locations, and the bus shuttle from the village centre to the Hübichenstein facilitates travel. Guests with limited mobility, families with small children, and fans of local customs who prefer the convivial market square atmosphere will find their Walpurgis spot here.
