Overview

The 4th edition of the Hamborger Plattdüütsch Dag took place in 2024, once again bringing together readings, concerts, plays, and church services op Platt at dozens of venues in the Hanseatic city. The organizer is platt.hamburg (Plattdüütschroot för Hamborg), supported by the Ministry for Science, Research, Equality and Districts.

Even in 2024, it was evident that Low German is more alive in Hamburg than often assumed in everyday life. Over 60 events were spread across all districts of the city on one Saturday. Schools, libraries, churches, independent theatres, and community cultural centers opened their doors for readings, concerts, plays, and interactive formats in Low German.

The majority of events were accessible free of charge; the program was, as always, coordinated by platt.hamburg, the Plattdüütschroot för Hamborg. With over 100,000 Low German speakers in Hamburg, the day of action is a firm part of Low German language preservation in the Hanseatic city.
