Overview

The 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival continued the homage to Hamburg's sister city Osaka, which has existed since 1968. Japanese fireworks over the Outer Alster and the Japanese Festival in Planten un Blomen—one of the Hanseatic city's most popular summer cultural events—attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors.

2025 Review

In 2025, fireworks and the Japanese Festival once again kicked off Hamburg's festival season. The Japanese fireworks display over the Outer Alster drew several hundred thousand spectators who gathered at Jungfernstieg, Alsterpark, and the surrounding city districts. The Japanese Festival in Planten un Blomen brought together cosplay fans, anime enthusiasts, Japanophiles, and families over the weekend.

The German-Japanese Society Hamburg and the Japanese Consulate General jointly organized the festival—a testament to the nearly 60-year-old Hamburg–Osaka city partnership.
