Overview

The Halbfastenmarkt 2025 took place as usual on the third Tuesday of Lent in Kempen's old town. Over 200 vendors from all over Germany transformed the eight central old town streets into a day-long street market — a classic in the Lower Rhine region, with an international catchment area extending into the nearby Netherlands.

Halbfastenmarkt 2025

In 2025, the Halbfastenmarkt again followed its proven format: over 200 stalls in the historic old town of Kempen, a wide range of goods, large visitor numbers from the Rhineland, the Ruhr area, and the Netherlands. The Werbering Kempen e.V. organized the market as every year in cooperation with the city and local businesses.

The weather in March is usually still wintry, which further boosts mulled wine sales — one of the peculiarities of this very early spring market. Nevertheless, or perhaps precisely because of it, the Halbfastenmarkt has been a must-attend event in the Lower Rhine March calendar for centuries.
