Overview

The 2025 World Heritage Celebration marked the nationwide UNESCO World Heritage Day, focusing attention on the archaeological border complex of Haithabu and Danewerk. Four years after UNESCO recognition, residents, World Heritage partners, and guests gathered in the World Heritage Region near Schleswig for a day of celebration with culture, a market, and educational activities.

Looking Back: World Heritage Celebration 2025

In 2025, the World Heritage site once again utilized the nationwide UNESCO World Heritage Day to raise awareness of the archaeological border complex within the region. Activities focused on World Heritage education — including hands-on activities for children, stalls from regional World Heritage partners, and program items centered around Vikings and archaeology.

As in subsequent years, the celebration was supported by volunteers from the organizing bodies: Amt Haddeby, the municipality of Busdorf, the Busdorf parish, the Busdorf volunteer fire department, and the World Heritage Association 'Haithabu und Danewerk e.V.' Admission was free.
