Overview

Already in 2025, Drehnow in the Amt Peitz kept the old tradition of Hahnrupfen alive. Riders in Wendic-Sorbian costume, a festive procession, the crowning of the Harvest King, and dancing marked the weekend in Lower Lusatia.

The 2025 Edition

In 2025, the Drehnow Hahnrupfen was part of a whole series of Lower Lusatian harvest customs that are maintained in the villages around Peitz, Cottbus, and Forst. The connection to Wendic-Sorbian culture is anything but folklore here — it is passed down from generation to generation.

Living Tradition

The Hahnrupfen today is a declaration: of one's own history, of the language, of the Wendic-Sorbian identity as a recognized national minority in Germany.
