Overview

The 19th German Concrete Canoe Regatta took place on June 21 and 22, 2024, in Cologne. Over 800 students from more than 40 universities competed in their concrete boats in the cathedral city. It was the last edition before the 2026 anniversary in Brandenburg an der Havel — and confirmed the regatta's reputation as one of Germany's most unusual sporting and engineering events.

The previous edition in 2024 in Cologne was a complete success: over 800 students, more than 40 universities, and an enthusiastic audience on the banks of the Rhine in Cologne. The event traditionally changes its location, allowing each edition to reach a new region and a new audience. Brandenburg an der Havel, with its well-equipped regatta course on the Beetzsee lake, is a logical and beautiful choice for 2026 — competition conditions like those for World and European championships, combined with the water-rich Havelland region.

The tradition dates back to 1986 — almost 40 years of student competitions centered around the material concrete, organized by the InformationsZentrum Beton and the German concrete industry. For anyone interested in civil engineering or skeptical about whether concrete boats can actually float: a visit will clarify both.
