Overview

The Gengenbach Advent Calendar 2025 ran during the traditional Advent period from late November to December 23. 24 town hall windows featured artworks by an invited selection of artists, accompanied by the Advent market in the half-timbered old town. Thousands of visitors from Germany and abroad traveled to the Black Forest town, many specifically for the calendar. The tradition continues in 2026 with new artists for the 24 windows of the baroque facade.

International Advent Icon

Since 1996, the Gengenbach Advent Calendar has evolved from a city marketing experiment into one of Europe's most renowned Advent destinations. International guidebooks regularly list it among Germany's top Christmas markets; tour operators organize Advent excursions to Gengenbach.

In 2025, the calendar and the accompanying market once again attracted thousands of visitors to the small town in the Kinzig Valley. The combination of high-caliber art (each window an original work), the dense medieval town scenery, and a manageable size — Gengenbach is small enough to explore everything on foot — makes the format unique. This tradition continues in 2026, featuring new artists for the 24 windows of the baroque facade.
