Overview

The first edition of the Zapparossa Festival ran from September 12th to 14th, 2025, and was celebrated by audiences and the press as a "surprise success". Six venues, experimental programme in the spirit of Frank Zappa, decentralised city centre staging in the Barbarossa city of Gelnhausen.

The premiere of the Zapparossa Festival in 2025 was a small cultural undertaking: a new festival format in a medium-sized town, organised by volunteers, with an ambitious programme of music, art, film, and readings. The success exceeded expectations, so the organisers announced the second edition for the same September weekend as early as the beginning of 2026. The six venues – Pali Cinema, L'Ulivo, Zur guten Quelle, Künstlerkeller, Lorbass, Reinhardsschänke – turned Gelnhausen's city centre into a decentralised playground.
