Overview

The 3rd Franconian Senior Derby took place in 2025 again at Hotel Kaiseralm in Bischofsgrün. Over nine rounds in the Swiss system, seniors aged 55 and over competed for the Derby title. Karl-Johan Laustsen secured the overall victory and also won the Nestor award. Organized by ChessOrg Hoffmann Reisen in cooperation with the Upper Franconia Chess District, the Derby was once again a gathering of experienced chess players in the Fichtelgebirge.

The 3rd edition of the Franconian Senior Derby 2025 was held, as usual, at Hotel Kaiseralm in Bischofsgrün. In the Swiss system, seniors competed over nine rounds for trophies and special prizes.

The winner was Karl-Johan Laustsen, who also won the Nestor award (oldest participant). As in previous years, many participants combined the tournament with a chess holiday in the climatic health resort of Bischofsgrün, including hikes on the Ochsenkopf and walks through the Bischofsgrün forest. The event was organized by ChessOrg Hoffmann Reisen GmbH in cooperation with the Upper Franconia Chess District.
