Overview

The folkBALTICA 2025 took place in early May at numerous venues in Schleswig-Holstein and South Schleswig. The Viking city of Schleswig, as in previous years, was a central concert location: both the Slesvighus and the St. John's Monastery offered a stage for artists from the Baltic Sea region.

The 2025 edition continued the tradition of the festival, which has been bringing folk music from the entire Baltic Sea region to Schleswig-Holstein since 2005. As every year, the program combined concerts, workshops, and encounters between artists from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Scandinavia, and Germany.

Schleswig remained one of the musical anchors of the festival in 2025. International folk ensembles performed at the St. John's Monastery and the Slesvighus, many of them for the first time in the region. The familiar atmosphere and the mix of established names and new discoveries have characterized folkBALTICA for two decades — this remained true in 2025.
