Community Festival of the Young Municipality
The Föritztal municipality is a young political entity: it was formed in 2018 from the merger of several smaller municipalities in the Sonneberg district — Schierschnitz, Judenbach, Mönchsberg, Mupperg, Neuhaus-Schierschnitz, Lindenberg, and other districts. The municipality now has around 6,500 inhabitants spread across 11 districts, located in the gently rolling transitional area between the Thuringian Forest, Sonneberg region, and the Franconian borderlands. The Herbstfest is one of the central events where the various districts come together — an identity-forming occasion that strengthens the sense of community in the young municipality.
Three Days of Marquee Festivities and Autumn Atmosphere
The program follows the classic Herbstfest (autumn festival) format, enhanced by the specific character of the Föritztal club scene. A large marquee will be erected on the festival grounds next to the swimming pool in Neuhaus-Schierschnitz — space for several hundred visitors. Carousels and fairground stalls will complement the festival area. Friday evening: Opening night with a dance party and cover band; Saturday: Main festival day with live music all day, club performances, and a grand dance party late into the night; Sunday: Family day with a morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, children's program in the afternoon, and a relaxed festival conclusion.
Regional Culinary Delights and Club Performances
The Föritztal clubs will be responsible for catering — sports clubs, marksmen's associations, fire brigades, church communities, heritage associations. The menu will feature typical Thuringian and Franconian specialties: Thüringer Rostbratwurst (Thuringian grilled sausage), Coburger Schmankerl (Franconian delicacies), hennebergische Klöße (dumplings), regional game, baked goods, and homemade cakes. Drinks will be sourced from nearby breweries (Coburg and Sonneberg beer). Performances by local clubs will alternate on stage — marching bands, marksmen's bands, children's choirs, dance groups — with live music from external cover bands. The program has the character of an enlarged club evening, showcasing the diversity of the eleven districts.
Föritztal — Transition Between Thuringian Forest and Franconia
Föritztal is located in the Sonneberg district in the southernmost part of the state of Thuringia, directly on the border with Bavaria (Coburg region). The region is scenically attractive: gently rolling foothills of the Thuringian Forest, small streams, fields, forests. Tourist attractions include the nearby Saalfeld Fairy Caves (30 km away), Veste Heldburg fortress (25 km away), and the toy town of Sonneberg (8 km away). The Herbstfest itself is not a major tourist event, but an authentic village/community festival — a recommended destination for visitors from the region seeking genuine Thuringian conviviality.
