Overview

The 51st edition of the International Film Weekend Würzburg in January/February 2025 marked the transition into a new decade and celebrated the festival's 50th anniversary (founded in 1975). Again, around 50 films from around the world were shown on five screens in the Bürgerbräu Quarter, curated by the volunteer-run Filminitiative Würzburg, featuring feature films, documentaries, and short film programs.

The anniversary edition in 2025 confirmed the festival's long-standing curatorial ambition: international art house cinema from over 30 countries, a multifaceted program of feature film, documentary, and short film slots, special events, and retrospectives. As in previous years, the venues were Central im Bürgerbräu, Keller Z87, Siebold Museum, and Theater Ensemble – all within walking distance in the Bürgerbräu Quarter in Zellerau. The Filminitiative Würzburg remained true to its volunteer model, organizing a festival of international renown with comparatively modest resources.
