Filmfest Hamburg 2025 once again showcased around 70 international feature films and documentaries in five Hamburg arthouse cinemas. With politically accented auteur cinema, premieres, and the tradition of free admission on October 3rd, it is a firm fixture on Hamburg's cultural calendar.

Filmfest Hamburg 2025 – Review

The 33rd edition also followed the familiar festival rhythm: Abaton, CinemaxX Dammtor, Metropolis, Passage, and Studio-Kino screened international feature films and documentaries for ten days. Focuses such as political cinema, Latin American, and Asian contributions shaped the program. Located in the Hamburg-Mitte district, the Filmfest is also spatially part of Hamburg's cityscape – the journeys between venues are part of the festival experience. On October 3rd, Hamburg residents once again experienced the traditional free admission, a festival format that is almost unique in Germany.
