10th Filmfest – Anniversary with Stephen Frears

The 10th edition of Filmfest Bremen was a milestone. At the opening gala on March 19, 2025, at the Theater am Goetheplatz, British director Stephen Frears received the Bremen Film Award of Sparkasse Bremen. Hugh Grant gave the laudation – a true surprise. Afterwards, the festival screened the German premiere of Frears' series 'Brian and Maggie'.

International Breadth

With 115 films from 30 countries, the festival offered exceptional diversity. The competition films came from four continents and ranged from mainstream to independent. The Humor and Satire category was particularly impressive: The Best Feature Film 'Another German Tank Story' by Jannis Alexander Kiefer (€5,000), the Best Medium-Length Film 'Rachid' by Rachida El Garani (€2,500), and the Best Short Film 'Do It Right' by Yaroslav Lebedev (€1,500) were awarded Golden Mops.

Six Venues, Five Days

At the venues Schauburg, Atlantis, City 46, Gondel, Cinema Ostertor, and Theater Bremen, filmmakers and audiences celebrated five intense festival days with film discussions, Q&As, and industry meetings.
