Overview

FIDENA is a biennial festival and takes place every two years — the last edition before 2026 was held in May 2024 in Bochum and other Ruhr area cities. In 2024, the focus was again on the breadth of contemporary puppet theatre: around 25 international productions, with an emphasis on political and ecologically conscious stage art, held at venues across the region.

The 2024 edition was the last under the previous management team and also served as a bridge to the 2026 realignment. International productions from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Eastern Europe, and overseas, combined with German artists, once again made the festival a central industry meeting point for contemporary puppet and object theatre.
