Overview

In 2025, the annual Fire Brigade Pilgrimage to the Marienweiher Basilica was celebrated in its usual format. Brigades from the Kulmbach district and neighboring districts gathered at Radoplatz Marktleugast and marched in formation to the Pilgrimage Basilica of the Visitation of Mary. The ecumenical service in the basilica concluded the pilgrimage ritual. This format has represented the spiritual bond of the Upper Franconian fire brigade community for decades.

The 2025 edition adhered to the tried-and-tested format: assembly at Radoplatz, pilgrimage to the basilica, and a joint ecumenical service. The brigades — usually in uniform, with standards and pipes — followed the classic pattern of Upper Franconian pilgrimage culture, which has shaped Marienweiher for centuries.

Marienweiher, as a pilgrimage site, has retained its special significance for fire brigades across generations. The evening service in the Baroque basilica is also a moment of reflection for participants on the importance of voluntary service.
