Overview
2025 was the major preparation year for Castrop-Rauxel for the 2026 double anniversary: 100 years of the city (founded April 1, 1926) and 50 years of the Stadthalle (opened 1976, designed by Arne Jacobsen and Otto Weitling). The festival committee, city administration, and municipal cultural office jointly planned the festival week, engaged artists (especially Castrop comedian Micky Beisenherz), coordinated architectural tours, and the big family festival at the city center for May 30, 2026. In 2025, some preparatory actions and citizen participation formats already took place.
The preparation for the festival week began several years in advance. With its anniversary, Castrop-Rauxel also signals its growing self-confidence as a medium-sized city in the Ruhr area — and uses the Stadthalle as an iconic building for an architectural tribute in the 50th year after its opening.
Programme
Preparation year for the 2026 festival week — no independent anniversary event in 2025.
