Overview

The Festival of Lights 2025 continued the tradition, ongoing since 2012, for the birthday of Frederick II. Lantern crafting in Potsdam's museums, a gathering of lights on the Old Market with a brass choir and bonfire, marked the January event in Brandenburg's finest urban setting.

The Festival of Lights on the Old Market 2025 took place as usual on January 24 (or the nearest Saturday) in Potsdam. The organizers were the Potsdam Museum, the Museum Barberini, and the City of Potsdam. The day began with lantern crafting in the museums in the afternoon and culminated in the gathering of lights on the Old Market with the brass choir at St. Nicholas' Church and a bonfire in the square. As in previous years, the event attracted families, school classes, and tourists from Berlin, underscoring the Festival of Lights' role as a winter family event in Potsdam's annual calendar.
