Overview

The 21st edition of the Festival of Lights took place in October 2025. For ten evenings, international light artists transformed Berlin's landmarks into an open-air gallery. Bebelplatz and Potsdamer Platz were the central hotspots, with Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral, and Charlottenburg Palace also featured. Free admission.

With its 21st edition in 2025, the Festival of Lights continued its unbroken tradition since 2005 as one of Europe's largest light art festivals. In 2025, the hotspots at Bebelplatz and Potsdamer Platz attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to Berlin's city centre. The international light artists developed site-specific works reflecting Berlin's history and present.

As in previous years, the concept of free admission proved successful: the festival is a deliberately accessible cultural offering intended to reach all Berliners – and millions of tourists. Guided tours by bus, boat, and on foot complemented the free main programme.
