Overview

The 8th edition took place in October 2025 at the silent green Kulturquartier and City Kino Wedding venues. Core: competition in five categories. Premiere of the special format FAB Dimensional (spatial animation). Berlin Animation Hub as a growing industry track. In the competition section, international and German studios and universities showcased their short and medium-length animated films.

The 8th edition in 2025 was a crucial consolidation of the festival — with the premiere of the special format FAB Dimensional, which gave spatial and immersive animations their own section for the first time. FAB thus set a curatorial accent that other German animation festivals (Stuttgart, DOK Leipzig, Filmfest Dresden) are only hesitantly adopting.

The competition section with five categories was, as in previous years, the centerpiece. The New Talents section showcased works from the most important German animation universities (Filmuni Babelsberg, HfG Karlsruhe, HFF Munich, Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln), and the International section featured productions from over 30 countries.
