The European Youth Sports Festival Bitburg is one of the oldest and most renowned international youth sports events in the Greater Region of Eifel-Luxembourg-Belgium-Netherlands. It has been held annually in rotating host cities since 1970 – in Bitburg, the 56th edition of the festival in 2026 is a key event in the city's sports calendar.
Traditionally, teams from Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands participate in the Youth Sports Festival. The participating cities and clubs send their youth teams for a weekend of sporting encounters, cultural exchange, and fostering friendships.
The program includes five classic disciplines: basketball, football, athletics, swimming, and volleyball. This covers both team and individual sports, appealing to a wide range of young athletes. The competitions take place in various sports facilities within the city of Bitburg.
On Sunday, May 10th, 2026, the festive closing ceremony will be held. The winners will be honored, and the festival flag will be traditionally handed over to the next host city – in 2026, to Cranendonck in the Netherlands, which will host the festival in 2027. This gesture symbolizes the continuous passing on of tradition and the international anchoring of the festival.
The festival's motto – Fairness, Friendship, and Athletic Performance – shapes the spirit of the event. The participating youths experience not only the sporting challenge but also cultural encounters across languages and nations. Host families from Bitburg welcome the visiting athletes, strengthening personal connections beyond sports.
The 56th edition in 2026 continues the long-standing tradition of the European Youth Sports Festival in Bitburg. Over three days, team and individual competitions will be held in various Bitburg sports facilities. Bitburg has won the overall ranking multiple times in previous editions.
