Summer wine days in the Ellenz district
Ellenz-Poltersdorf is a municipality with two faces: Ellenz lies directly on the banks of the Mosel and is surrounded by vineyards, while Poltersdorf is located higher up on the slope and retains a more reserved, village-like atmosphere. Both districts celebrate their own wine festivals, giving the municipality reason to celebrate twice a year.
The Ellenzer Weintage on the third weekend in July are the first of the two major wine festivals in the municipality. For three days, the Ellenz vintners present their current wines at stands along the main street and in the festival square. The festival tent offers dance evenings with regional bands, and on Sunday, a traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music is on the program.
A special feature of Ellenz is its location opposite Beilstein, one of the most beautiful villages on the Mosel. Those who use the festival weekend for a stay on the Mosel can take the passenger ferry to Beilstein and visit the medieval old town, the Carmelite monastery, and Metternich Castle ruins. This combination of wine festival and sightseeing makes the Ellenzer Weintage a particularly attractive destination.
The wines come from the Ellenz wineries and their neighbors—Rieslings, Spätburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, and sparkling wine specialties from the steep slopes around the village. Culinary delights include typical Mosel festival cuisine: Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), Bratwurst (sausage), fries, Riesling wild ragout, and hearty festive dishes.
The Ellenzer Weintage 2026 will take place from Friday, July 17th, to Sunday, July 19th. The festival grounds are located in the Ellenz district, supplemented by wine stands along the main street. The organizer is the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein Ellenz (Local and Tourist Association).
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Highlights: Rieslings from the Ellenz vintners, festival tent with live music, Frühschoppen with brass music on Sunday, typical Mosel cuisine, passenger ferry to Beilstein as a tourist supplement, location in a picture-book Mosel landscape.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and wine tasting on site.
Getting there: By car via the B49. By train to Cochem, then continue by bus. By passenger boat from Cochem or Beilstein directly to the Mosel riverbank.
Admission: Free. Food, drinks, and wine tasting on site.
Tip: Take the passenger ferry to Beilstein—the medieval old town is only five minutes away and worth a sightseeing detour.
