Overview
The 2025 edition ran from Whit Saturday, June 7 to Whit Tuesday, June 10. As always, the highlight was the spectacle on Whit Monday with the performance of the Dreckschweine in the wild game enclosure. The Pentecost egg collection, the Apron Ball, and the final "Pfingsttanz vergraben" were also part of the festival week.
As has been the case for at least 1620, the Pentecost men of Hergisdorf adhered to their custom in 2025. Young men rolled around in the muddy wild game enclosure on Whit Monday morning, becoming almost unrecognizable as "Dreckschweine" — and were driven out of the pit by the Sommerläufer with cracking whips. A ritual that has lost none of its power.
