Edition 2025 — District Festival Weitmar-Mitte
In 2025, various district festivals took place in Bochum-Weitmar — precursors to the 2026 anniversary celebration. The initiatives in Weitmar-Mitte, Weitmar-Mark, and Dahlhausen worked in parallel on community-oriented neighbourhood programmes. The concept of a small, neighbourly district festival (as opposed to commercial major events) solidified as an important pillar of Bochum's neighbourhood culture.
The district festival tradition in Weitmar is relatively young — the 2026 anniversary edition is also the first of its kind. Earlier neighbourhood activities in 2025 had prepared the concept: district walks, joint breakfast events, and neighbourhood initiatives are part of a growing trend towards neighbourhood activation in Bochum.
The Bochum Fund, as a municipal funding programme, has made these initiatives possible — a successful model of participatory district work, which is now culminating in the 2026 anniversary.
