Civic festival and experience day of the Hannover Region – 150 stands in the city center plus tour destinations in 21 cities and municipalities
Since its inception, the Discoverer Day has pursued a dual concept: on the one hand, it brings residents from the 21 municipalities of the Hannover Region into the state capital's city center, and on the other hand, it gives citizens of the state capital an impression of how diverse the surrounding region is. The Hannover Region is the largest administrative unit of its kind in Germany: an association of the state capital with the surrounding districts, jointly responsible for tasks such as transport, economic development, environment, and regional planning.
In Hannover's city center, from Kröpcke to Aegidientorplatz, around 150 stands are presented. Associations, initiatives, cultural organizations, municipal administrations, regional companies, and sports organizations are represented. Three stages with regional artists offer a continuous live program. Hands-on activities for families, sports demonstrations, and information booths complete the city center part.
In parallel, hundreds of tour destinations open their doors throughout the Hannover Region: museums, castles, farms, industrial monuments, nature reserves, power plants, sports facilities, workshops, libraries. Many offer special tours, activities, or reduced admission. The Hannover Region provides overviews and route planners that visitors can use to plan their own day.
The 39th edition was moved forward by one week to September 6 due to the Lower Saxony local election on September 13, 2026. This places the Discoverer Day in the pre-election period, during which administrations and politicians traditionally act with restraint regarding major events. The postponement was coordinated with all involved municipalities.
The Discoverer Day sees itself as a regional identification event. It brings the administration, its facilities, and the member municipalities into the public space and allows citizens to experience regional diversity for a day.
Program planning takes place throughout the year. The participating municipalities, associations, initiatives, and companies register their contributions with the Hannover Region, which compiles them into an overall program.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
