Overview

The 2025 edition of the DEEPWAVE Film Festival took place on June 20 at the Lichtmeß Kino in Ottensen. International short films on marine conservation, discussions with scientists and activists, free admission — a curated activist event that uses film as a political tool.

2025 Review

The 2025 edition brought together interested citizens and marine conservation activists at the Lichtmeß Kino. The film selection included international short films on topics such as coral reefs, plastic pollution, overfishing, and climate change. Afterwards, marine researchers and NGO representatives discussed with the audience.

The Ottensen district in Altona, with the Lichtmeß Kino, is one of Hamburg's most important locations for non-commercial, politically oriented film. DEEPWAVE e.V. has been using this infrastructure for years for its annual film festival — a synergy between Hamburg's art-house cinema culture and maritime nature conservation work.
