Overview

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation, a particularly solemn central commemoration ceremony took place in 2025 at the Ravensbrück Memorial. High-ranking international guests, survivors, and their families participated in the ceremony on the Schwedtsee lake in Fürstenberg/Havel.

For the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp, the Ravensbrück Memorial organized a particularly extensive commemoration ceremony in 2025. Over several days, contemporary witness talks, exhibitions, readings, and concerts took place around the central ceremony on the first weekend of May.

The central commemoration ceremony attracted hundreds of participants from more than 20 European countries. Representatives of government bodies, ambassadors, survivors, and representatives of the International Ravensbrück Committee laid wreaths at the Wall of Nations. The event has been a firm fixture of European remembrance culture since the late 1950s and is organized by the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation together with the International Committee.
