Overview
2025 was entirely dedicated to the preparation of the major anniversary year. The Art Collections of Veste Coburg, the Friedenstein Castle Foundation Gotha, and the Gotha Research Library worked together on the concept for the joint exhibition on the 200th anniversary of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, which was to culminate in 2026 with the main exhibition at Veste Coburg.
In the run-up to the 2026 anniversary year, the accompanying exhibitions and the supporting program were coordinated between the participating institutions in Coburg and Gotha. The research and preparatory work on the collections of both ducal cities formed the basis for the scientifically sound examination of the dynastic change of 1826. The actual special exhibition at Veste Coburg did not open until May 2026.
