The Classic Open Air Altenburg 2025 continued the tradition of the two-day open-air classical concert on the market square. Soloists, the Philharmonic Orchestra, and choirs of the Altenburg Gera Theater, under the direction of Kapellmeister Thomas Wicklein, presented opera, operetta, and musical highlights against the Renaissance backdrop of the historic main market square.
Altenburg 2025 — Classic on the Market Square
In June 2025, two open-air classical music evenings took place on Altenburg's market square. Under the direction of Kapellmeister Thomas Wicklein, the Altenburg Gera Theater, with soloists, the Philharmonic Orchestra, and choirs, presented a program of opera, operetta, and musical. The Renaissance market setting with the illuminated Town Hall, the balmy summer evening, and the musical quality made the concerts a firm highlight of Altenburg's summer cultural calendar — a tradition that will be crowned in 2026 with the Wicklein farewell homage.
