Overview

The premiere of the TraNET Festival Clashing Classics 2025 kicked off at Berlin's Theater im Delphi with Monika Dobrowlańska's production of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Angst essen Seele auf (Fear Eats the Soul). Actors from Chile, Spain, Morocco, the USA, and Austria gave the classic a contemporary, migrant-informed interpretation. The premiere established the transnational festival format.

The opening of the Berlin premiere on February 27, 2025, was positively received by industry professionals and the Berlin press. The live subtitling in Italian and French worked technically smoothly, and the simultaneous discussion with the partner locations Milan and Avignon after each performance became an unexpected highlight.

Four performances over four days, each completely sold out at the Theater im Delphi. Based on this success, the second edition in 2026 was announced with an expanded co-production format.
