Overview

The 2025 Chinesenfasching took place on "Unsinniger Donnerstag" (Fool's Thursday), February 27th, in Dietfurt an der Altmühl. As in previous years, the grand masked procession with around 50 carnival groups characterized the cityscape. Approximately 20,000 visitors came to the small Upper Palatinate town, which transformed into "Bavarian China" for a day. In 2025, the Chinesenfasching was also officially nominated as a candidate for UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list — an additional milestone for the tradition keepers of Dietfurt.

The 2025 edition was marked by the UNESCO nomination. The battle cry "Kille-wau!" traditionally echoed through the old town, the "Emperor of Dietfurt" appeared for an audience on the town hall balcony, and the approximately 50 carnival groups delighted visitors and residents with elaborate Chinese-inspired costumes.

The lanterns over the alleys, the pagodas on the floats, and the dragon constructions made the 2025 Chinesenfasching a visual spectacle unparalleled in the Franconian-Bavarian carnival calendar. City tours at the Chinesenbrunnen, balls in the inns, and public carnival festivities completed the day.
