Overview

The 32nd Botenlauben-Festspiele took place in September 2024 at the Botenlauben castle ruins. The established three-day program of open-air theatre, show combat, market, and camp life once again attracted thousands of visitors from Lower Franconia, Hesse, and Thuringia. The organizer, the Reiterswiesen Local Heritage Association, used the entrance fees to fund ongoing restoration work on the Staufen castle ruins.

2024 Festival in Retrospect

In 2024, the festival once again showcased the strengths of its concept: a real castle ruin as a backdrop, a dialogical theatre play, show combat with high reenactment quality, and a lively market. The 2024 festival confirmed the tradition and laid the groundwork for the 33rd edition in 2026.

Restoration Funding

The festival's entrance fees have been funding restoration and maintenance work on the castle ruins for years. Thus, the festival is not only a cultural project but also a monument preservation project.
