Biosphere Week 2025

In May 2025, the 13th Biosphere Week took place in the Swabian Jura UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Over 80 events in the three districts of Reutlingen, Esslingen, and Alb-Donau-Kreis showcased the diversity of the protected area — hikes through juniper heaths, visits to sheep farms, lectures on karst phenomena, film evenings with nature filmmakers, culinary tours to Albkäse producers and lamb specialties.

Parallel to the Biosphere Week, expansion talks were held between the state of Baden-Württemberg and 16 member municipalities. The negotiations led to the expansion agreement, which will be officially signed on May 17, 2026, as part of the Welcome Festival. The 2025 season thus served as preparation for the now imminent expansion — a confirmation of the successful work of the Biosphere Reserve's managing body.
