Overview

In 2025, as every year, Föhr was illuminated by 13 Biike bonfires on February 21st, transforming the island into a sea of lights. In Wyk, a torchlight procession took place, while the rural villages celebrated with their own Biike fires and community gatherings. The custom, recognized as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage since 2014, remains a vibrant tradition of Frisian identity. Afterwards, locals and guests gathered in the inns for a traditional kale supper with aquavit.

As every year, Föhr transformed into a sea of lights on February 21, 2025. 13 Biike bonfires burned in 13 island settlements — the highest density among the North Frisian islands. In Wyk, the traditional torchlight procession marched from Sandwall to Fehrstieg, while in the rural villages, community gatherings celebrated their own Biiken. The custom — intangible UNESCO cultural heritage since 2014 — remains a living tradition of Frisian identity. Afterwards, locals and guests gathered in the inns for a traditional kale supper with aquavit.
