Overview

From November 4 to 16, 2025, the premiere of the Berlin Freedom Week took place. On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the fall of the Wall, the new festival week featured numerous Berlin venues with conferences, eyewitness accounts, theater, films, exhibitions, workshops, and tours. Highlights included the Berlin Freedom Conference on November 10 at the Gasometer on the EUREF Campus, as well as the parallel Falling Walls Science Summit. The Governing Mayor was the patron.

Premiere with Great Resonance

The first Berlin Freedom Week 2025 ran from November 4 to 16, 2025, and immediately established the format as Berlin's festival week for the anniversary of the fall of the Wall. For nearly two weeks, numerous events filled the city with the themes of freedom, democracy, and human rights.

Program Structure

The 2025 program pillars included conferences (most notably the Berlin Freedom Conference on November 10 in the Gasometer at the EUREF Campus), the concurrently running Falling Walls Science Summit (November 6–9), numerous film screenings and theater performances, exhibitions, readings, and concerts. The program was supplemented by guided tours of Wall sites (Bernauer Straße, Stasi Headquarters, escape tunnels) and workshops for school classes and families.

Hybrid and International

Many events were offered in a hybrid format and were specifically aimed at an international audience – activists, scientists, and journalists worldwide who are engaged with democracy and repression.
