Overview

The 2025 Bergmannstag coincided with the 70th birthday of the Lauchhammer Park Railway. The festival on July 6, 2025, in the Lauchhammer-West Castle Park was thus doubly festive: celebrating the mining tradition and the anniversary of the historic narrow-gauge railway, which has been taking children and adults through the park since 1955.

The 2025 Bergmannstag was particularly festive: the Lauchhammer Park Railway, the heart of the festival, celebrated its 70th birthday on the same day. The little train has been running through the Castle Park since 1955 and is one of the oldest park railways in Germany.

For the anniversary, there was a special timetable, new female drivers were officially welcomed, and the Traditionsverein Braunkohle Lauchhammer received donations that will go towards the continued maintenance of the railway. The 2025 festival was thus a double commemoration: of Lauchhammer's mining tradition and of the families who have kept the park railway alive for three generations.
