Overview

The 2025 pilgrimage week at Mariahilfberg in Amberg took place, as every year, around the Visitation of Mary. Pilgrims from all over the Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia made their way up the hill above the town of Vils, participating in pilgrim masses, sermons, and the traditional Bergfest week — a piece of Bavarian folk piety that has grown over centuries, complemented by bratwurst and a Maß of beer on the mountain plateau.

Bergfest 2025 — Pilgrimage to Mariahilfberg

In 2025, the Amberger Bergfest once again drew tens of thousands of pilgrims and festival visitors to the Mariahilfberg. The festival week took place, as is traditional, around July 2nd and included the usual eight days of festivities with daily pilgrim masses, evening festival sermons, themed days for youth and seniors, and the beer tent of the Amberg breweries. The impressive candlelight procession from the city to the mountain marked the conclusion.

The Mariahilfberg Church Foundation, in collaboration with the Franciscans, had put together a program that attracted pilgrims from the entire Diocese of Regensburg, from Middle and Upper Franconia, and even from neighboring Czech Republic.
