Overview

The 2025 edition of the Bachfest Leipzig was held under the motto “Transformation,” exploring the metamorphosis of Bach's music through arrangements, stylistic crossovers, and new interpretations. For ten days, cantatas, passions, and instrumental works resonated in the original places of work — Thomaskirche, Nikolaikirche, and Gewandhaus — as well as at numerous other venues in the city.

Bachfest 2025 — “Transformation”

From June 12 to 22, 2025, the Bachfest Leipzig was dedicated to “Transformation” — the metamorphosis of Bach's music through the centuries. Over 150 events featuring the Thomanerchor, the Gewandhausorchester, and international guest ensembles brought Bach to life in his places of work. Highlights included performances of the St. Matthew Passion, the Mass in B minor, and selected cantata cycles.

The festival once again proved its status as the most important Bach gathering worldwide, attracting numerous visitors from all continents to the Saxon city of music — a prelude to the 2026 festival motto “In Dialogue.”
