Overview

The Ascension of Mary celebrations in Altötting 2025 gathered thousands of pilgrims again on August 14 and 15. On the eve, a festive Mass with town pastor Dr. Klaus Metzl in St. Anna's Basilica and the grand torchlight procession around Kapellplatz; on the feast day, a Pontifical Mass with Bishop Stefan Oster.

Ascension of Mary 2025 was celebrated in Altötting in the traditional manner. On the eve of August 14, the festive Mass with town pastor Dr. Klaus Metzl in St. Anna's Basilica was the focus, followed by the grand torchlight procession with the Miraculous Image and thousands of pilgrims who circled Kapellplatz three times with burning candles.

On August 15, the solemn procession with the Miraculous Image to the Basilica at 9:45 AM and the Pontifical Mass at 10 AM, celebrated by Bishop Stefan Oster, the Bishop of Passau, followed. Marian Vespers at 3 PM in the parish church concluded the liturgical celebrations. Altötting once again confirmed its status as Bavaria's most important Marian pilgrimage site.
