Overview

The 2025 edition celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Archimedean Sandbox — three weeks of summer tradition on Aachen's Katschhof. The special program included a sustainability-focused construction project with carbon concrete, an innovative building material co-researched by RWTH. Over 150 tons of sand, sunshades from STAWAG, and an expanded workshop offering attracted thousands of Aachen families.

In 2025, the Archimedean Sandbox celebrated its 10th anniversary — it has been a staple of Aachen's summer repertoire since 2016. The anniversary program was expanded: in addition to the classic sand-building activities, there was a construction project using carbon concrete, a sustainable high-tech building material playing a key role in RWTH research. The event once again demonstrated how Future Lab Aachen — the collaboration between the city and four universities — integrates science, urban space, and family activities. The experiences from 2025 informed the planning for the 2026 Reit-WM edition.
